Just think how you’d feel if your dog suddenly looked at you and started speaking. That has to be the same level of shock that the first parrot induced. What I wouldn’t give to know the first word a parrot said, though. I’ve heard of some very dirty-minded parrots.

In all honesty, the first record of a speaking bird was most likely a plum-headed parakeet. Its name was Bitticus, and it lived in the 5th century BC, owned by Ctesias, a Greek physician and historian.
