With Twitter sort of imploding ever since Elon Musk took over and a bunch of people got fired and a bunch of users went running for the hills, it’s nice to look back on the tweets of this year, knowing that by this time in 2023, Twitter might be a largely abandoned wasteland, occupied largely by burning trash cans and rusty cars. And what’s a better way to look at the year we’ve had than reading tweets? We’ve collected some of our favorite tweets from the past year, on topics ranging from current events to oat milk and flaky pastries. Read on and enjoy the best side of Twitter while we still can.

Maple Mysteries
Have you ever used one of those little glass bottles of real maple syrup? I’m not talking about the plastic bottles full of the cheap stuff that you put on pancakes at a marching band fundraiser breakfast—I mean the real, honest-to-goodness, tapped from a maple tree by a hard-working Canadian sort of maple syrup.

If you have, then you know exactly what this tweet is talking about: there’s a little tiny handle that’s not large enough to be of any use near the top of the bottle. I always try to pick it up by that handle, just out of curiosity, but I’ve never thought too hard about why it’s there or what it’s for. But after this tweet, I don’t know if I’ll be able to think about anything else.
