Move from Monologue to Dialogue
When guys talk about something, they often get accused of mansplaining. They don’t necessarily mean to do it, and maybe they would talk about that subject at the same length and detail with another guy too. But when they’re talking to women, they have to be careful not to be accused of this terrible crime. Well, guys, this is how it works (more or less): mansplaining is delivering boring and patronizing monologues to women, and assuming they don’t know things that they might already know, and maybe even know better than you.
So, the safest thing to do is make it less of a monologue and more of a conversation. Check where the woman you’re talking with stands on the subject, how much she knows, and how much she’s interested. If it’s a two-way conversation and not you carrying a patronizing monologue, you’ll be fine – you won’t be accused of mansplaining.
