Best Ways to Have a Quiet Date Night at Home

November 18, 2021 by Kristen Reed

The hectic pace of modern life does not leave a lot of time for romance. Many couples find themselves too busy to enjoy a romantic evening at home. However, there are many ways to make this quality time together special.

Here is how to have a quiet date night at home without spending too much money or going out of the house:

Take a bath together

This is one of the most romantic things you can do at home. Candles, champagne and soft jazz in the background will make this hour or two at least as enjoyable as going to a fancy restaurant. It is a date night idea that provides a lot of fun and intimacy without spending too much money.

Eat in bed

Another great date night idea when you are short of time and don’t want to break the bank is cooking a meal in bed. You can prepare simple dishes such as macaroni, chicken, or dessert in the microwave oven. It only takes a little bit of practice to learn how to cook without spilling anything on your sheets. The entire meal can be eaten in bed, and it’s a wonderful way to spend time together at home.

Read a book to each other

One of the least expensive date night ideas is reading a book to each other. You can find books that are meant to be read out loud, such as those for children or those aimed at pre-schoolers learning to read. Or you can read a book you both enjoy, perhaps the latest bestseller, or an old favorite. It’s also nice to sit close together and to take turns reading paragraphs or pages for each other.

Cook dinner together

Another inexpensive date night idea is cooking dinner together at home. Even if it means eating breakfast food for dinner, it is a wonderful way for you and your special someone to spend time together without spending too much money. Some couples find they have more fun preparing the meal if they come up with silly names for the dishes, or prepare them in strange ways. You can also try cooking foods from other countries or sampling different cuisines by making an entire meal from a particular country.

Go to the park or beach

If you live in an area where there’s a nearby park, lake, ocean, etc., go there together on your date night. Bring a blanket and some food and drinks (don’t forget the bug spray if it’s near woods), and enjoy the sunset or moonlight. You may even be able to watch the stars come out if it’s a clear night.

Go for a walk together

Another inexpensive date night idea is going for a walk, either at night or during the day. You can take a camera and look for interesting things around you that you can photograph. Or you might choose to talk about your dreams and hopes for the future, perhaps even making some concrete plans.

Just be together at home

Sometimes the best date night ideas are no ideas at all beyond spending time with each other and doing what you both enjoy doing. Perhaps you enjoy playing a board game or computer game together. Perhaps you read to each other from the same book with different voices for the different characters. Perhaps you simply talk for a few hours about your life together and how it could be better.

Think of date night ideas that are inexpensive or free, but don’t think you have to go anywhere or spend any money to make this time special. Many couples find they have more fun if they try not to spend too much money on their date nights, and focus on spending time together instead.
