Better Oral Hygiene for Kids & New Youth Toothbrushes

April 27, 2020 by MamaBee

I received product(s) for free. All opinions are my own.

Dr. Plotka’s Youth Manual Toothbrushes are recommended for children ages 3-12, teens with braces or anyone who enjoys using a smaller brush. Made with soft, polyester bristles, they work to gently clean the gums and enamel of your little one.

With Dr. Plotka’s, you can brush very gently, which limits irritation and still reach between the teeth and under the gum-line, unlike any other brush. No more need to use those muscles to get the best at-home clean!

Editorial content

This new Youth Manual Toothbrush option reminded me of some better oral hygiene for kids tips. I used to have a difficult time with my boys. They didn’t like brushing their tooth and often we had some battles during those toddler years.

Even now, when my niece slept over, I offered her some of the toothpaste that came in our kit and she was all like, “I have a pretty strict idea of what I like for toothpaste and no thank you on that one”.

I giggled, but she proved my point – kids have their preferences and sometimes dislike brushing their teeth at all!

Below you’ll find some tips and more info about Dr. Plotka’s Youth Toothbrushes so that you can get those reluctant brushers, brushing their teeth regularly!

Better Oral Hygiene for Kids Tips

Brush Twice a Day

Make sure that your kids are using their toothbrush twice a day. Another tip is to floss at least once per day. There are many kid-friendly flosser designs that make kids’ flossing easier. We loved using DenTek Kids Fun Flossers when the kids were younger.

Get Regular Cleanings

My kids go to the dentist every six months. The exception is during our five months of being homeless, the boys missed their six-month checkup. Now with the virus keeping dental offices closed, they missed this appointment but we’ll get them back to their regular cleanings every six months when dentists start to reopen.

Replace Toothbrush

Make sure to replace your toothbrush. That’s why I love the multi-pack of this new youth toothbrush. You can replace your kids’ toothbrushes regularly. We used to use a UV toothbrush cleaner anytime we had the flu or sickness, too.

Brush Teeth Together

When our sons were younger we would always brush our teeth when they brushed theirs. This helped keep them engaged in brushing for the right amount of time and doing so regularly. As the kids got older, they brushed together as siblings instead.

I believe the key for ensuring your kids practice good oral hygiene is to be the example. As we get older our teeth get frail, and my kids have seen me come home from getting three teeth pulled in my adult life. I use this as an example as to why brushing your teeth is so important!

Why This New Youth Toothbrush is the Best Ever

  • Naturally Antimicrobial* Bristles – Infused with silver to naturally eliminate 99.9% of bacteria that grow on the bristles within 6 hours! So, every time you brush, those bristles are fresh, clean, and ready to work their magic.
  • Flossing Bristlesâ„¢ – Dual-layered bristle structure provides superior cleaning: the longer bristles, thin as a human hair, gently brush away food and plaque in places other brushes miss while the shorter, thicker bristles ensure complete cleaning of gum and teeth.
  • Soft Long-Lasting Polyester Bristles – Get up to one extra month of use thanks to polyester bristles which bend better than the nylon bristles found in most other brushes on the market! (The ADA recommends changing your toothbrush every 3 months. The Doctor Plotka’s brush will last about 4!)
  • Dentist Developed – Dr. Ronald Plotka designed this innovative toothbrush as part of his thriving 40+ year Boston-based dental practice.
