K-19: The Widowmaker – $94 million
Film critic Roger Ebert describes what went wrong with K-19: The Widowmaker. We’re paraphrasing here, but essentially, if a movie is about a group of people stranded in a submarine, there are only three variables to consider: oxygen, water pressure, and the enemy’s presence. The longer the movie goes on, the less there is to talk about.
That’s a pretty elegant way of saying, “we know what’s going to happen, roll the credits!” Although this movie starring Harrison Ford and Liam Neeson lost $94 million, two veterans from the real K-19 sub felt it was a good film and praised Harrison for his stellar acting.
