Jupiter Ascending – $110 million
Following the major success of The Matrix franchise, codirectors Lana and Lilly Wachowski longed to prove that they count continue to create the next sci-fi blockbuster. People expected a lot from the sisters to extend their creative magic beyond The Matrix, but sadly, they couldn’t deliver.
Jupiter Ascending was released in 2015 and made a measly $1 million on its opening day. Seeing as the movie had a production budget of $200 million, this worried the codirectors and their studio to no bounds. In the end, the studio incurred $110 million in losses. Maybe they should just stick to The Matrix, which is what they’re doing. The next installment is coming out in December 2021.
