Alice Through the Looking Glass – $70 million
Tim Burton doesn’t have very many losers in his directing career. He’s able to make amazing pieces of cinematography art on extravagant budgets that rake in even more money. So, with Tim Burton at the helm of Alice Through the Looking Glass, Disney had no reservation in letting him do what he does best.
Unfortunately, things didn’t exactly go as planned. The movie did well in theaters by grossing close to $300 million on a $170 million budget, but in the end, they incurred a $70 million loss. To be fair, it hit theaters at the same time as X-Men: Apocalypse and Warcraft. At least Alice Through the Looking Glass won an award for the best song in a sci-fi/fantasy film (Just Like Fire).
