Jack the Giant Slayer – $125 million
When Jack the Giant Slayer was released in 2013, New Line Cinema expected swarms of fans of fantasy movies would come flooding through the doors. The film follows the classic story of Jack and the Beanstalk, starring Nicholas Hoult as our hero. The X-Men actor generated a bit of hype for his role as Jack, but even he couldn’t save the day.
After the movie came out, people were disappointed with how impersonal Jack and how the movie was just another way for studios to make a quick buck by remaking old films. It was reported that New Line Cinema lost upwards of $125 million for its efforts.
