You Have to Love Seaweed
This is probably the first time you’ve seen so much seaweed, and especially in this texture. Seaweed in America is a healthy cracker-like snack or only eaten with sushi. But in Wales, laverbread is a common puree made of an edible seaweed called slake. It doesn’t look that appetizing to someone new to the spread.
Laverbread gets its dark green color from being boiled down before it’s pureed. The people of Wales enjoy laverbread because of the large amounts of iron, iodine, and other important minerals. It is usually eaten with cockles and bacon, but you can see this tourist enjoying it on a slice of toast.
