Periwinkles
Periwinkles are basically the British version of escargot. But they’re only made with a specific type of species of snails: edible whelk or sea snails. Sometimes you will find escargot still in its shell. But with periwinkles, you will always find the meat in its shell, kind of like an oyster.
The first bite of a periwinkle offers oceanic juices to enter your mouth, giving you a nostalgic remembrance of your times at the beach. This is a great meal that Brits like to enjoy in the summer for this purpose. Finally, we’ve found a British food that is full of protein and low in fat.
