Overstepping Boundaries
This could be a possible lawsuit. Dormitories may have rules about overnight guests, but in a rented home, this rule is made by the tenant, not the landlord. Usually, people in relationships stay at each other’s homes every now and then. Some even have a drawer or closet space at their significant other’s home.
A landlord cannot charge you for having a guest stay over. This landlord informed this tenant that because her boyfriend stayed over sometimes that he was increasing her rent. Landlords can make rules about smoking, pets, and noise, but not about guests coming over and staying for the night. There’s no legal charge for that.
