Top 5 Tips for a Happier Dog

As a dog owner, you understand only things that dogs owners understand—how dogs can restore your sense of wisdom and wonder. It’s hard to feel lonely when you have a warm, loving companion by your side always ready for a rubdown or a walk.

Bringing you joy and igniting your spontaneous sense of love and generosity, dogs can touch your heart and help you laugh again after a particularly hard day at work. Blissfully ignorant of things like tyrannical bosses, conniving colleagues, missed deadlines, and scope creep that pushes projects over budget, dogs can help you find your sense of balance when you get home.

So, what can you do to return the favor? How can you help your dog enjoy a wonderful life? Here are a few ways you can help your dog feel happier, more carefree, and well-loved:

Buy a GPS collar

The purpose of getting your dog a GPS collar is simple: it helps prevent your dog from getting lost. This can happen, for instance, when you’re in the woods and your dog joyfully romps out of sight chasing a squirrel. When it comes to GPS dog tracking collar, the DU Supply Garmin Astro 320 is the next generation. This type of collar is particularly useful if you live in a remote area and your dog gets out of the house and wanders off.

Provide Your Dog with Special Foods

Besides giving your dog a favorite brand of dog food, or your own home-cooked dog food after doing some online research, consider giving your dog some nutritious snacks.

Although you don’t want to overdo it, some good times to give your dog treats are as a reward during dog training, during holidays when everyone around your poor dog is relishing treats, and during those times when you think your dog is looking a little too lean.

So, while your kids might be enjoying their Halloween candy or your family and friends savoring your special Thanksgiving dessert, give your dog snacks designed for dogs. Natural treats are often made with peanuts, apple, carrots, oats, and similar wholesome ingredients.

Special foods like green tripe, milk thistle, raw eggs, organ meats, and coconut oil can help your dog build muscle and get a shinier coat. Think of them as doggy supplements.

Help Your Sick Dog Feel Better

While, of course, a trip to your caring veterinarian is the most sensible way to help your dog get well again, sometimes your local clinic may be so busy that it will take a few days before you can get an appointment.

What do you do in the meanwhile? Here are some home remedies you can try to make your pooch feel a little better:

  • If your dog is suffering from nausea, vomits often, or has diarrhea, give your dog plenty of fluids with electrolytes to help them shake off their lethargy.
  • If you suspect your dog is suffering from gastrointestinal distress, which often happens with puppies, then give your dog some yogurt to help repopulate their gut bacteria.
  • If your dog is constantly scratching because they have a minor skin irritation, get a spray bottle and fill it with chamomile tea. Chamomile has soothing qualities that can help your dog feel less itchy.

Use a Dog Stroller

The idea of dog strollers is slowly getting wider acceptance. Although dog strollers are often used for elderly dogs who tire easily after long walks, they are also useful for taking your sick dog to the vet or for providing your dog with a safe space they can curl up for napping if you have to take your dog for a day at your busy office or have to stay overnight at a motel.

Find Great Places for Dog Walks

Humans aren’t the only ones who love to go to interesting places. A family vacation could include finding comprehensive trail guides for your dog to enjoy some outdoor adventure. There are numerous long-distance trails in populated Eastern and Midwestern regions and in the more remote Western areas.

There are many special things you can do for your dog. After all, as a New York Times article by researcher Gregory Burns says, “Dogs are people, too.”

Why Family Bonding is Important for Families

The concept of family is not just about those who were born to you or share a blood relation. The family is defined by a person or group of people with whom you feel closest to. I have a large extended “family” that doesn’t involve just blood-related family members. The family structure regardless of blood relation is a vital component of society and the mental health of our children.  When children grow up in a household that puts family bonding at a high level of priority, tend to be more caring, compassionate and great at relationships in the future.

Why Family Bonding is Important for Families

Keeps Family United

Bonding is not just an important word for family. It makes us feel united as one. Strangers all over unite to bond over a similar passion or cause all of the time. Family bonding is much like those instances when a portion of society meets up to discuss their favorite cause, passion or business goal. Family bonding goes a bit deeper as emotions are involved. This type of bonding helps a group of people who call each other family learn more about each other’s likes, loves, and passions. It helps solidify a love like no other person or group will ever provide to the family members.

Healthy Connections

One benefit of family bonding that I personally love is that it helps inspire healthy connections and relationships. This goes beyond the initial family unit. When children grow up in a home that put bonding time as a priority, they tend to foster healthy connections with others in society. Children who spent quality time with their family unit have a more positive outlook on life and know how to maintain healthy connections with their friends and love partners.  Family bonding time helps children learn how to communicate, listen and act appropriately within a safe environment.

Promote Happiness

Spending quality time bonding as a family helps promote happiness within the entire household as well as within individuals. Letting go of adult responsibilities and sitting down to enjoy the game time, movie time or even just a casual conversation with your children can help ease your stress and promote happier times. Children who grow up in a household where they feel heard and respected will grow up to treat others in the same way and promote happiness everywhere they go in life. Being happy is important to maintaining healthy habits in life, love, and business.

Family bonding is a beautiful thing and there are so many things you can do to boost and promote this time together. Whether you set a specific day of the week for family bonding time or do it at spontaneous moments, family bonding will truly inspire a healthy connection that will run deeper than your immediate household with your family members.

Easy Family Bonding Idea

Schedule a weekly family movie night, we have Family Friday Night where we eat pizza and my three kids vote on a movie. When the kids were younger, we’d do a slumber party in the living room as well as pizza and a movie. This solidified the bond between my children and me, I highly recommended a Family Friday Night for any family who’s raising kids still.

What are some tips when listing references on your resume in 2018?

There is really just one tip when it comes to listing references on your resume—don’t do it. Nor should you put references in your cover letter. This has been true for many years and remains so in 2018. Unfortunately, you may have heard otherwise from a friend who said something like, “My cousin did it and got the job,” or “The recruiting firms near me say to do it.”

Listing your references on your resume makes you appear amateurish and unprofessional. Here’s what you can do instead, according to accounting recruiters.

What are some tips when listing references on your resume in 2018

Supply references only when asked

You may think a middle ground is to list, “References upon request” at the end of your resume or cover letter. Don’t do that either. The assumption is that you will be happy and able to supply references if asked to do so. Instead, use the limited space on your resume to list your credentials, using numbers and other provable data when possible to back up your accomplishments.

Use the separate space on the job application

Many jobs ask you to fill out an application in addition to sending a cover letter and resume. These applications tend to have a space for references, so fill out the information requested only on the application.

Organize references neatly

If the job posting asks for something like, “Submit resume, cover letter and references,” then start your reference list on a separate page from the other two documents. It is best to include multiple avenues of contact rather than just one. That means instead of simply listing a phone number for each reference, also list an email address and mailing address. Also list the reference’s job title and company.

Last but not least, ensure that each reference has given you permission to be used. It can be helpful when you contact the references to remind them of your accomplishments.

Why Is My Dog Behaving Aggressively?

When your dog is turning aggressive because they are frustrated, there is a known name for this, being barrier frustration, or redirected aggression. This essentially means that they are feeling this way because they aren't able to do something that they want to, which leads them to take out their frustration in an aggressive way.

Pixabay

If you have your own dog and have noticed a sudden change in their behaviour that’s rather aggressive, like baring their teeth and lunging forwards, then it can be very difficult to know how to manage it. You wouldn’t want to do nothing, as the problem will get worse until you can’t take your dog out in public without a nozzle, and that’s never something an owner wants to do.

The best way to go about dealing with your aggressive dog, is finding out where it’s all coming from. While your dog isn’t necessarily able to tell you the root of their problem, they will definitely be able to give you clues in terms of the signs that can be picked up. The sooner you know, the sooner you can help them.

It’s important to remember that a dog isn’t aggressive because they want to be, or because they’ve just woken up on the wrong side of the bed, so to speak. It’s because they are dealing with something that is causing them to act out and be on edge all the time. So whatever you do, don’t get angry and lash out just because your dog might be – it’ll only end in tears.

Here is a list of the most common causes of aggression in dogs.

Fear

If your dog feels as though he is in danger of being attacked or hurt, they will either run away, or defend themselves, resulting in them turning aggressive. This happens when they are backed into a corner and can’t turn or escape what they feel in danger. Even slight things like raising your hand to a dog – regardless of what your, or someone else’s intentions were – they will go for it in fear that they were about to be hit. Most dogs will only ever behave this way when they have good reason to, even more so when they’re in new company and don’t know the person or animal enough to trust them yet. If your dog’s behaviour has always been this way, then you are right to question his living circumstances when he was a baby before he came to you. In that case, you will need to work very closely and carefully with your dog to teach them that they’re safe now with you, and you don’t pose a threat to them.

Illness

Illnesses can be the cause of your dog acting out, because they may be in a lot of pain, and pain makes anyone feel cranky. They may have some serious problems like a brain tumour, rabies, and thyroid disease. Or it may be something that can be treated very quickly as long as you catch it early, like fleas. They are irritating, and no matter how much your dog scratches, the pain will only get worse. It’s essentially unescapable until you get the right treatment, so have a look at websites for more info on what kind of medication your dog will need. If left untreated, your dog will end up hurting himself more than the fleas by tearing out their own fur and scratching away at their skin until it bleeds. So save them from this torture and get them sorted out.

Possession

This can happen when your dog gets possessive over something. This could be their toy, their food, their bed, the garden, the sofa, or anything else that they have claimed. It doesn’t need to be something they own – it’s just their idea of what they think is theirs. This can happen at any time throughout their life, so it’s your job to put them back in their place, as you are the owner, and they are the pet. They may show you signs of their aggression by growling and baring their teeth when you or someone else gets close to a particular item. You might go to give your dog a stroke while they are chewing on their toy, and then get bitten. It’s important not to show your dog fear, because this will only feed into what they already think they’re doing is correct. You need to nip this kind of behaviour in the bud as soon as you notice things like this.

Dominance

Sometimes dogs get aggressive because they are trying to establish some dominance whether that be towards other dogs which is most common, but sometimes even towards humans. They try and do all they can to show that they’re in charge by being aggressive and scary looking. If they feel as though their dominance is being challenged, they will growl, bite, and spit to put any other challengers in their place. If your dog is doing this when you try to move them off the sofa or keep them from tugging on their lead, make sure that you know how to handle them. You should never fight aggression with aggression, but you should show them that you’re the boss by making a sudden loud noise and never breaking eye contact until they do first.

Frustration

When your dog is turning aggressive because they are frustrated, there is a known name for this, being barrier frustration, or redirected aggression. This essentially means that they are feeling this way because they aren’t able to do something that they want to, which leads them to take out their frustration in an aggressive way. Just think of it as how we sometimes get angry when driving because someone cuts you up, resulting in your honking your horn and saying curse words. A good example for why dogs get like this is when they are tied up for long hours on end in the garden, and they try and try to get to the other side so they can greet the dog next door. Because they are unable to, they will strain themselves and be very vocal by barking and growling because there’s nothing else that they feel they can do. Then when you go out to let them back inside or to see to them, they may go and bite you because they have all the pent-up anger inside themselves.

Days Out That Really Are Fun For ALL The Family!

It can often feel as though whenever you come across something that is designed to be fun “for all the family” that it’s actually just designed to keep the kids entertained and will almost certainly result in parents sitting around ready to fall asleep at any moment. This applies to films, games, toys, activities, and just about anything else. Of course, there’s not always something wrong with that. After all, kids need things that are just for them as much as anyone else, and most parents understand pretty clearly just how important it is to allow kids to have their time. But sometimes you just want to do something that you can all enjoy, even if it’s just for a little while. After all, if it’s something that you can enjoy too then you’re going to be able to get stuck in and engage with your child much more effectively. Not only that but it will make the whole experience a lot less stressful for you and make you far more likely to want to take your kids out for those kinds of activities again. With that in mind, here are a few days out and activities that really are fun for ALL the family.

The aquarium

https://www.pexels.com/photo/blue-jelly-fish-87771/

It doesn’t matter who you are or how many times you’ve been around the block; there is just something magical about an aquarium. It can often feel as though you’ve stepped into a whole other world which, to a certain extent, you have. There are things to see that you’d otherwise never experience in person and new things to learn around every corner. Aquariums are often designed with entire families in mind, so it’s not just about the kids. Besides, there isn’t anyone on the face of the earth who could watch a shark swim right past them and not feel a sense of awe and wonder at it. There are usually aquariums in just about every city but finding ones that are really worth visiting can be tough. Check out this page with the results for “SeaQuest aquariums near me“. That way you’ll be able to find the best possible aquatic day out for you and your family.

Go-karts

There’s just something primal about wanting to go fast. Kids know the feeling well, and anyone who’s ever had the temptation to open up the engine of their car and really build up some speed knows it too. Which is why go-karting is such a fantastic activity because it gives the whole family a chance to indulge in that kind of activity without having to worry about getting yourself into any kind of dangerous situation. Sure, you’re probably going to have a bit more control over things that the kids but there are often different tracks for every level, and even if they don’t break any kind of speed records, they’re going to end up having an absolute whale of a time because it’s impossible not to feel like you’re picking up incredible amounts of speed when you’re behind the wheel of a go-kart.

The pool

https://www.pexels.com/photo/sunglasses-girl-swimming-pool-swimming-61129/

If you’re not interested in spending a lot of money on some kind of complicated activity then why not just take the kids for a trip to the local pool. The wonderful thing about any day out with kids is that they have the amazing ability to turn anything into a game. All they need is a large body of water and a few floats, and they’ll almost certainly be able to come up with a whole bunch of hilarious games for you all to play. Not only that but a lot of pools have things like floats, inflatables, and other fun things to play with. That’s not even mentioning those pools with waterslides that you can all race down at high speed before crashing into the water with as big a splash as possible!

A day at the beach

Then again, why spend any money when one of the most enjoyable places in the world is totally free and just waiting for you to come and find it. The beach is one of those things that you almost can’t believe is totally natural since it seems perfectly designed to be fun for the entire family. The kids can build sandcastles, fish in rock pools, or splash about in the waves, while grown-ups can do everything from relaxing in the sun with a good book to heading out into the deep water on a board ready to catch some serious surf. The fact that you and your family can have this much fun without having to spend any money is honestly amazing, and it’s the kind of opportunity that you should take as often as possible.

A family movie night

https://www.pexels.com/photo/food-snack-popcorn-movie-theater-33129/

Of course, if you want to have fun with your family, that doesn’t mean that you need to get out and do something dramatic out in the world. Sometimes you just need to bring the fun to you. Why not get everyone cuddled up on the couch, get a big bowl of popcorn ready, and have yourself a movie marathon? You can each choose a movie so that you can all be sure that you’ll be watching at least one thing that you actually enjoy. It’s a simple way to spend your time, but if the weather’s horrible and you don’t have that much money to spend, it’s often the perfect family activity.

Sure, not every activity needs to be perfect for the whole family, but it’s always much nicer if everyone can enjoy themselves as much as possible rather than having to worry about getting bored and frustrated when your kids really want to you get involved with what they’re doing. Of course, these are far from the only options available to you. There are plenty of things that you and your family can do for fun; it’s just a matter of figuring out what you all enjoy and embracing that. If you find something that you all love then you could end up discovering a whole new family tradition that will stick with you for years to come.

Take Christmas To A New Level With These Fabulous Ideas

Christmas is nearly upon us, so it’s probably a good time to begin thinking about preparing for the festive season so that as soon as thanksgiving has come and past, you can concentrate on making this the best Christmas yet. Instead of doing what you usually do, why not take Christmas to a new level with these fabulous ideas?

Image

Decoration

One of the first things that we begin to notice when Christmas rolls around is the decorations going up in shops and around town. If you’ve been using the same decorations for your home for many years now, or you feel like a change in color then consider going all out for your home decor this year.

Usually, families have a real tree, or a green plastic Christmas tree to decorate in their home. These days, you can get different colored trees to display in your home, either as your main Christmas tree, or one for another room to keep the festivities throughout your home. If your home is stuck to a particular color theme, why not choose a tree that will fit in perfectly with your theme? For example, if you have a black and white theme, a black fibre optic Christmas tree would fit perfectly in your home.

Lets not forget about the baubles either. Depending on what kind of tree you have, or what theme you’re going for you can get corresponding baubles and tinsel to match. Alternatively, decorate and design your own baubles with the kids to make the magic even more real.

Another idea would be to decorate some figures to display in your garden with Christmas colors and fairy lights. For example, creating a snowman out of cardboard or a similar material and decorating him with lights and funky colors would make your home decor stand out from the crowd, and also give the children something to do when the christmas holidays roll around.

Tradition

It’s likely that in your childhood you have traditions from Christmas that you would like to continue with. While that’s a great idea, creating new traditions for your family will be something that you and your children cherish for the rest of your lives. Simple things like making sure you’re all together on Christmas eve to watch a film, with special treats for the family make all the difference to how Christmas feels to everyone.

Many people have traditions like not opening gifts until they have had their Christmas lunch, which extends the excitement even further. Just make it special for your family, whatever you choose to do.

Image

Gifts

Even though we all know that Christmas isn’t about the gifts, it is a majorly exciting part of the day for everyone involved, especially the children. Whether or not you’ve chosen to include Santa in your children’s lives, the thrill of opening presents is tremendous for them so remember to create some magic in their younger years to look fondly back on.

Stuck for ideas on what to get your children, or possibly even the rest of your family? Check out these brilliant ideas for stocking fillers to see if you can find some inspiration! http://www.giftbeta.com/category/best-stocking-stuffers/. While there’s no rules on how little or much you should spend, try to remember that Christmas isn’t just about gifts, and that spending time together as a family is more important.

Food

While the traditional roast turkey might not be something that can be missed off your shopping list, why not consider adding some unusual delights into your cart? Treats like cheeses, wines, pickles and biscuits can completely step up your food game on Christmas day.

One thing that might make Christmas more exciting for the family is to get everyone involved in cooking the main meal. Giving everyone an assigned task and then showing off all of your hard work at meal time will leave everyone feeling accomplished and more importantly, full.

So when the time comes for you to do your Christmas shop, remember to browse all of the aisles for the delicacies that stores tend to bring out around Christmas time. You might even find a new food to add to your list permanently!

Give

While you may be giving gifts to your family, don’t forget about the people who don’t have much in this world and make their year by giving to them, especially in these colder months. You can visit homeless shelters to serve food, create gift boxes for children in poorer countries, donate to charities, and much more.

Not only will this help those that are in need, but it will give you an enormous sense of well being. If you can’t afford to give money, give your time because that’s just as appreciated for many people who are facing Christmas alone this year. If a neighbor of yours is alone, make a point of inviting them over for Christmas dinner so that they can enjoy the day as much as possible. Nobody should be alone at any time in their life, especially Christmas.

Image

Remembering what it’s about

As briefly mentioned earlier, many people tend to forget what Christmas is really about due to the over commercialisation of it through the media. You probably already know that Christmas is derived from the religion Christianity. That’s not to say you must be a Christian to celebrate it, but do try and remember about where Christmas came from, and that it’s not solely about gifts and food. It’s also about much needed family time, and appreciating what you have in life. It’s also a time to build bridges with people, catch up with old friends and generally, a very lovely time of year.

So, step up your Christmas game this year with these fabulous ideas and make it your best Christmas yet! Remember, nobody should be alone at Christmas. The more the merrier!
