Very Illuminating
This person grew up in a neighborhood that had an HOA. One of the silliest rules in their community was that residents weren’t allowed to have their garage door open with the lights on at night. The reason the HOA prohibited illuminated garages was to protect residents from bears, and also purely for aesthetic reasons.
We understand not wanting to draw attention from wild animals, but caring that much about aesthetics seems silly and over the top. One night, the OP and their family were packing up their car for a camping trip and had their garage light on as they brought stuff out to the car in the driveway. Surprise, surprise. They got in trouble for having their garage light on at night. The HOA even told them they should have packed their car in the dark!
