Too Politically Correct
This story is an example of someone meaning well but missing the mark. The HOA of this person’s community in Finland has banned everyone from saying “terve,” which is a common Finnish greeting. “Terve” literally translates to “healthy” or “well.” Basically, it’s an informal way of saying hello to someone.

This term has been banned because a disabled person recently moved into the community. The HOA is afraid the man will feel offended if someone says “terve” to him in passing. Instead of asking him directly what he is comfortable with, the board just decided to err on the side of caution and be extra sensitive. This whole situation probably could have been addressed by just asking the new resident and letting him speak for himself.
