While there are some ways to mitigate disasters, like too much salt or not enough flour in your gravy, overdoing flavors can result in inedible food. Start with a small portion and taste-test along the way to make sure you aren’t overdoing it. You can always add more later – but you can’t take away.

A good rule of thumb is to lightly salt your meat and veggies before cooking, but add that last dash at the end. Lemon can overpower a cream sauce quickly if you aren’t careful, so you’ll want to use your taste and smell to be sure you’ve added just the right amount.
