The Chocolate Controls Them
Chocolate is universally loved, and it holds extraordinary power over children that not even sleep can deflect. They’ll traverse the dark, scary hallways and their spooky shadows to stare you down in the middle of the night to remind you that you uttered the word “chocolate” to them hours earlier.
Saying that word or any other sugar-laden variety is a risk parents take when they are trying to bribe their kids out of a protest and into compliance, and they aren’t wrong for holding us accountable for our promises. We just wish they found less frightening ways to do it.
