Most landlords keep a professional distance from their tenants, and that’s the way it should be. They may have a friendly interaction or two with their renters, but making personal and inappropriate jokes is a step too far. This landlord made two faux pas in one text. All they had to do was ask for their rent money, but things got very weird.
Calling your renter a peasant isn’t exactly endearing. It proves to them that you think you are better than they are, even if it’s only said in a joking matter. And then making a reference to a controversial pop culture moment is plain weird, especially since it came out of nowhere. Did the renter ask for their landlord’s opinion on this odd Netflix documentary? If not, keep your opinions to yourself, please!
