People Who’ve Worked in the Food Industry Share What Dishes They Never Dare Order

October 27, 2010 by Alison Campbell

Bad Bread

This kitchen confession is a total health code violation, and we hope it’s not the norm. One person used to work at an “upscale” Italian restaurant, and she said they would reuse the complimentary bread that was left uneaten at a table. Instead of tossing out the untouched bread, it would be placed in a “new” breadbasket for the next group of customers.

She also said that the pre-grated parmesan cheese was always returned to a communal tub, where it would be re-sifted into another container for a new table the next day. A lot of people had a lot of questions about the veracity of this post. Many people pointed out that she did not, in fact, work at an “upscale” Italian restaurant because an actual fancy restaurant would never do these things. Drama!
