Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea Aren’t What They Seem
Japan is home to two of the top most visited Disney theme parks in the world; Tokyo Disneyland and the nautically themed Tokyo DisneySea. About 30 million visitors pass through the gates every year, making the Disney parks a huge success, but there’s a surprising fact that many of the Mickey-eared guests are unaware of.
Unlike the other Disney parks, Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea are not owned by Disney at all. They are owned by Oriental Land Company, which struck up a deal with Disney in the late 70s. Oriental Land Company pays royalties and licensing fees to Disney in exchange for the use of its branding.
