A Different Kind Of Dolphin
When one hears the word “dolphin,” they imagine the majestic gray mammals that jump through hoops for treats and have their likeness immortalized in ceramic figurines. The internet is swarming with rumors that the statue is a dolphinfish, also known as mahi-mahi, or for seafood lovers, a delicious meal. However, respected Disney historian Jim Korkis says the design was inspired by famed Italian artist Gian Lorenzo Bernini, who is said to have borrowed his dolphin style from the ancient Romans.
