Feeling the pain
The film Inside Out is all about feelings: how we can be overwhelmed by them, why we shouldn’t shut them out completely, and that sort of thing. It’s safe to say that, over the years, Disney films have evoked many feelings in us all. Who has managed to make it through one of their films without pretending there’s something in your eye? Certainly not me (weeps silently).
Famously the opening montage from Up had everyone in absolute floods of tears. Its portrayal of Ellie and Carl’s relationship was so touching and so sad at the end. So, when Inside Out wanted to run some scenes in the background that represented sadness, what else could they choose? The opening montage runs behind Joy in memory orbs when she is embracing sadness. Obviously, she’s in pieces.
