Chernabog – Bela Lugosi
Fantasia is a film Disney released in 1940. Although it is not as popular as most Disney movies, it has a pretty decent cult following and received positive critical remarks. One of the characters in the film is a nocturnal devil based on a deity from Slavic mythology named Chernabog which can be translated as “black god.”
The creators wanted to make Chernabog as realistic as possible, so they enlisted the help of Bela Lugosi, the actor who played Count Dracula in the 1931 film. Lugosi was used as the live-action model and even though the film’s director Bill Tytla did not enjoy his acting, his looks are felt in the menacing character.
