Mortimer Mouse made his first appearance in Disney’s comic strips as a rival for Mickey, both striving for Minnie’s affection. In 1936 he appeared in a short film called Mickey’s Rival. It has never been confirmed but it is believed that Mortimer is based on Walt Disney.

Legend has it that an animator drew up a caricature of Walt and the president of Disney liked it so much that he introduced him as a new character by the name of Mortimer Mouse. Mortimer’s slim and tall figure, and thin mustache are the main things that make people believe he was based on Walt.
