Bambi – Actual Deer
Animating animals might sound easy but can prove to be very difficult, just ask the animators in charge of the 1942 Disney classic Bambi. Drawing realistic or stylized animals requires a lot of studying. The artists need to familiarize themselves with the movements and mannerisms of the creatures they would be drawing.
While working on Bambi, the production crew brought in two four-month-old fawns named Bambi and Faline. As they grew the animators were able to study them and their mannerisms. It was noticed how living in such close proximity to humans stripped them of their wild nature.
