Ancient Egypt isn’t the only place to use hieroglyphics. The inside of your car has its own set of symbols scrawled across the dashboard and control panels. There are the givens like the gas pump, which tell us we’re running on fumes, or the seated people with arrows to tell us where the A/C is blowing. Then there are the less obvious glyphs, like the red double triangles.
Although drivers know it as the emergency blinker button, it could mean anything to the inexperienced. Jennifer Radcliffe used that ambiguity to her advantage to make sure her precious cargo stayed buckled in safe. Wearing a seat belt might feel like a hassle, but it’s better than being launched out of the car without a parachute.
