The reason for differently-sided buttons is debated, but many believe it dates back to the 13th century when women had servants to dress them while men dressed themselves. Moving the buttons to the left made it easier for a right-handed servant to do their job, but it wasn’t only the buttons. Zippers tend to be left-sided for ladies as well.
