Mount Haleakala
Standing at 10,023 feet tall above sea level, Mount Haleakala in Maui is the biggest dormant volcano in the whole world. However, it is really much bigger than it appears to be, as most of the Volcano is submerged. Mount Haleakala is 30,000 feet tall from the seafloor.
Lava that erupts from volcanos turns into new pieces of land. Mount Haleakala’s massive volcanic eruptions have formed over three-quarters of the island of Maui. Although the volcano is inactive, it is not dead. The last explosion took place in the early 1800s and another one isn’t expected to occur anytime soon.
