Outlawed Reptiles
It is surprising to learn that any living thing is banned anywhere, but snakes are actually illegal in Hawaii. This law is taken so seriously that ships and planes for importing and exporting purposes are thoroughly examined contraband, including these reptiles. Within the last ten years, the brahminy blind snake found its way into Hawaii.
The brahminy blind snake, also known as the flowerpot snake, snuck into Hawaii by concealing itself in potted plants that were imported from the Middle East. Even though the pots were probably thoroughly examined, these snakes are commonly mistaken as worms for their extremely small size. Hawaii doesn’t consider them as snakes because they’re safe.
