Shipping Coconuts
The strangest part about this is the required packaging for the coconuts — there is none. Coconuts from Hawaii don’t need to be boxed or wrapped in any specific way in order to be shipped to anywhere in the world. You just have to ensure that the coconut is dried out before sending.
Coconuts, surprisingly, are not from Hawaii, They’re from the early Polynesian voyagers who brought a large number of crops, called canoe plants, and planted them in the Hawaiian soil. These plants sprouted the coconut tree, or Cocos nucifera, which simply means tall palm tree bearing coconuts as fruits. These trees are known as “niu” in Hawaii.
