It’s an Honor
We have already reviewed that Hawaii is the only place in the United States that has an actual palace that housed historical royal figures. Hawaii is also the only state in America that continued to honor a king… King Kamehameha III to be exact. Out of respect for this former ruler, the state observes King Kamehameha Day.
In June, Hawaiians and local people recognize King Kamehameha, also known as Kamehameha the Great, because he was the monarch who first established and unified the Kingdom of Hawaii under the Kamehameha Dynasty, back when it was a kingdom and not a state, which comprised of the eight islands that make up Hawaii today.
