The Hula Dance
Some cultures, like Hasidic Judaism for example, exclude one of the genders from dancing. However, in Hawaii, both men and women can partake in the enjoyment and cultural experience of Hawaii’s most common dance: the hula dance, which was created by the Polynesians who originally settled in the Hawaiian Islands.
The dance begins with a mele, or a serenade the represents the story, usually introduced by a man. Following, women serenade the rest of the story. Dancers stand erect with their knees bent and eventually include steps that involve lifting the hips. If you ever visit Hawaii, you should try to find an opportunity to partake in this cultural experience.
