Yellow Hibiscus
Earlier we discussed how each Hawaiian island is represented by its own color and flower. However, in the 1920s, the hibiscus became the national flower of the state and the national color is yellow, just like the flower. The choice of color should have been obvious due to the flower, but it was not determined until 1988.
Even though the national color is yellow, representations like Hawaii like brochures and postcards usually have red hibiscus flowers printed on them, rather than yellow. We’re not sure what the reason for this is. Another name of the yellow hibiscus is the pua aloalo, which sounds similar to “Aloha”.
