Lead in Sustainability
More recently in America, drug stores and supermarkets have begun to cease the distribution of plastic bags or have started charging customers for using them. This is a step towards America becoming a more sustainable country. But you may not have known that Hawaii was the pioneer to this change in the United States.
In 2015, grocery stores across each island of Hawaii have collectively decided to deny plastic bags to their customers. They will sell you a reusable bag or a compostable backpack if customers forget to bring their own bag. Recyclable paper packs are still being used in supermarkets. This is a movement expanding throughout the whole world.
