Bake Like An Egyptian
Americans are so pie-obsessed they have an organization dedicated to “preserving America’s pie heritage and promoting America’s love affair with pies” called the American Pie Council. The British are fond of the flaky-crusted dessert as well, with an astounding 75% of Brits satisfying their craving at least once a month.
So, who do we thank for our infatuation with pie and the urge to unbutton our pants at the dinner table so we can fit a few more slices in? The Ancient Egyptians baked the prototype of what eventually became known as pie. Oats, wheat, rye, or barley were used to encase a delectable honey filling. There’s also historical evidence of Ancient Egyptians cooking meat-based pies.
