Using pre-shredded cheese
A lot of us would rather grab a bag of pre-shredded cheese than grate our own. Although this does save time, pre-shredded cheese isn’t the best if you want to make pizza, mac n’ cheese, or any other dish where melted cheese is the star player.
Pre-shredded cheese is covered in cornstarch to prevent the bits from clumping up in the bag. However, this also makes it harder for the cheese to melt to a pourable consistency since the cornstarch will thicken the oils and create a clumpy mess. Instead, purchase a wedge or block of solid cheddar cheese and grate it yourself. It’s a workout, but it makes a huge difference!
