Colossal Damage
No matter how terrible your day is, it cannot be worse than what happened to this guy. In case you’re wondering what you’re looking at, that’s a broken satellite. Apparently, in 2003 a technician at the Lockheed Martin Space Systems factory in Sunnyvale, California forgot to log that he had removed 24 bolts while doing maintenance work on the Noaa-19 Satellite.
As the team tried to turn the satellite into a horizontal position, it fell over resulting in $135,000,000 in damages! Fortunately, there were backup instruments and components available and the satellite was launched in February 2009. All’s well that ends well.
