I feel like circuit design is something that you go to school for quite a while to learn proficiency in. Electricity has rules, even if I don’t fully understand them all, and they should be learned and followed to the letter. 

Whoever designed this particular circuit was probably absent a lot, or was the kind of person who got their classmate to do their homework for them. I may not know much, but I know that someone accidentally switching of a light should not risk innocent bystanders to get caught on an elevator between floors.
