Playing with Fire
Science teachers can go overboard when it comes to safety. They’ll tell you to wear goggles, latex gloves, chainmail armor, and a helmet when handling dihydrogen monoxide. That’s not a surprise, seeing as how the chemical compound can cause steel to rust and, in its gaseous state, cause painful burns.
Speaking of playing with heat, don’t do it. This young girl, who had an inexplicable fascination with the Bunsen burner, singed off nearly all of her eyebrows and a huge chunk of her bangs. From that day on, the students weren’t allowed to conduct lab experiments in science class. Not cool.
