Heroic Example
When I see a child playing in or near the street, I pay extra attention to what’s happening around them. By the time they are 7 or 8, they know they should look in both directions, but they can’t yet hear cars that aren’t right in front of them. Even though a child that age is old enough to cross the street on their own, I’m still careful. It makes me feel so much better to know that I’m not the only one who thinks and feels this way.
From this, this child learned that it’s important to take their time getting ready to leave the house. Drivers often don’t see people walking on the street, especially children. It’s a shame, but I doubt this happened at a crosswalk. Before crossing the street, I have to ensure the light at the crosswalk is green and that all traffic has stopped. The other drivers on the road don’t know who they are sharing the road with or driving next to.
