Say what you will, the aesthetic implications of this uncarpeted step at the bottom of a [presumably] long flight of carpeted ones. Yes, there is indeed a lot to say about that. I’m just kind of preoccupied at the moment with Occupational Health and Safety hazards implied by its placement there.

The person responsible for installing that carpet on all steps but the bottom one was most certainly playing some elaborate practical joke on the house’s occupants. Either that or trying to commit a murder. There is almost no chance this anomalous uncarpeted staircase is not causing falls.
