In the 1980s, Burger King wasn’t all about the drive-thru. Families would dine inside to enjoy the DIY salad bar, a concept that’s disappeared but paints a nostalgic picture of fast dining culture back then.

Profit concerns led franchisees to phase out salad bars by the early ’90s, many of which did not last over a year. Today, Burger King offers pre-packaged salads, moving away from the DIY concept but still catering to salad lovers.
