Having stress in your life is inevitable. At some point, everyone experiences stressful situations that can really bring you down.
Stress has the ability to affect nearly every aspect of your life both emotionally and physically. Fortunately, there are steps that you can take to relieve yourself from excessive amounts of stress.
Staying calm is hard. It takes work. But, once you get the hang of it, you’ll wonder how you ever coped with anything before.

Take some time to yourself.
It’s amazing what a few minutes to yourself can do for your state of mind. This may seem impossible in some circumstances, but if you can find a few minutes to yourself, it will help your state of mind immensely.
Take some deep breaths and calm down. Just do nothing for five or ten minutes. Let go of all the stress you are feeling in that moment. Don’t worry about what has to be done next, just let it go temporarily.
You might consider meditating.
Meditation may seem like it takes time, but it is all about doing one thing at a time for just a few minutes. You can find guided meditation exercises online that take around ten minutes to complete.
The point of this exercise isn’t necessarily to get rid of anything you are feeling in the moment, but rather to take a moment to reflect and relax. This might help you get your bearings and realize what is actually worth getting stressed about.
Forgive others.
If something someone else does stresses you out, it’s important not to take that stress personally. People do things for any number of reasons, and they probably aren’t thinking about how their actions will affect you.
If someone hurts your feelings or stresses you out, try to let it go and move on from the situation. Reminding yourself that people do things for their own reasons can help you not take things personally when they happen.

Let go of whatever is stressing you out until a later time.
You don’t need to think about whatever is stressing you out right now. If it’s a work project, put it away until the next day. If it’s an argument between you and someone else, just let go of it for now.
Whatever the stressor might be, try to push it into the back of your mind until later when you can deal with it without being so overwhelmed.
You can also try to do something that you find relaxing, like taking a bath or reading a book. This will take your mind off of whatever stressor is haunting you for the moment.
It’s important to remind yourself that you are in control of how much stress affects you. Once you learn how to stay calm, the stressors in your life will be much less taxing on you.
