Roll With It
When you’re a teenager (especially a teen girl) you spend a lot of your time rolling your eyes. You actually express a lot of what you want to say at that age by simply rolling your eyes. It can express boredom, disdain, annoyance, impatience, disagreement, resentment, frustration, sarcasm, irony, contempt, and lots of other teenage feelings. In general, it shows the adults around you (or other, less cool, teenagers) the contempt you feel towards them and what they’re saying.
It’s totally disrespectful and rebellious, so when our teen idols did it – like Molly Ringwald in a million 80s teen flicks – it looked so super cool. It’s amazing how one rude look can say so much! I probably don’t roll my eyes today as much as I used to in high school, but I kind of miss it. It sure felt better than seeing your kids roll their eyes at you. But I guess that’s the circle of life.
