An Apple a Day
I’m a self-confessed apple lover. I love apples of all kinds. I love the tech company, with the stylish logo, that has given us wonders like the Macintosh computer, the iPhone and the iPad. I love Apple Records – the record label that the Beatles founded. I love the hovering green apples in René Magritte’s surreal paintings. And I love the actual fruit too.
I like all types of apples, from the light green Granny Smith to Pink Lady with the sweet finish, especially since they have bestowed upon us goodies like apple pie, apple cider and caramel apples. I imagine I’m not the only apple fan out there, so it’s really no wonder that you call someone you cherish above all others “the apple of your eye”. Originally, the apple in the phrase referred to the pupil of the eye. But the apple really fits here.
