Between a Rock and a Hard Place
Everyone knows that diamonds are the hardest natural substance on earth. It’s almost impossible to break a diamond. Many hard rockers would like to be as hard too. This actually reminds me of a conversation I once overheard in which thrash metal was discussed. Thrash metal is a really extreme type of metal music – it’s loud and aggressive and everything you could imagine a genre that is named after a violent word like “thrash” to be.
Once I heard this guy, with long hair and a Metallica T-shirt, explain to someone that the point of this genre is that it’s vulgar, sleazy and crude. That guy was so full of himself and really thought of himself as quite an expert. The more I listened to his explanations I started to realize that he missed the whole point. He misread the word “thrash” (or was a pretty poor speller) and based his whole analysis on the assumption that the genre was called trash metal! Trash! Haha – that’s like the Oscar the Grouch version of hard rock!
