Sincerely Yours
Ha ha – she said bottom! The phrase “from the bottom of my heart” was first used in the English language in the 1500s and is based on the Greek idea that our feelings come from our heart and the deepest ones reside in the deepest part of the heart. Quite a while before that, this expression was used in the epic poem “Aeneid”, written by Roman poet Virgil between 29 and 19 BC. But who cares about all that if this expression has a bottom in it?

I can actually feel the illustrator’s delight in the possibility of drawing a cute little heart with an even cuter little butt. And that’s exactly what she did. And while we’re on the subject of butt-related puns, let me just say: this one is truly asstonishing. See what I did there?
