International Women’s Day Gives Us Plenty Of Reason To Celebrate

February 16, 2012 by Jade Parker

Women Were in Tech in the 1800s

Although people in the 1800s weren’t getting pulled over by the police on horseback for texting and galloping down the dirt roads, computer tech was a thing back then, and women were involved. Charles Babbage earned his reputation as “the father of computers” after he conceptualized the first computer, while Ada Lovelace expanded upon his ideas.

The two worked together, and Lovelace is said to have written the very first algorithm that could be used on one of Babbage’s machines. Unfortunately, she passed away before her program could be tested, but thanks to Lovelace and her vision of using computers for more than crunching numbers, we can enjoy scrolling through this article and others like it.
