The Day Turned Into A Month
International Women’s Day takes place globally for a day, but in the US, the entire month of March is dedicated to honoring women and the numerous ways they’ve uplifted society. It’s impossible to cram all that acknowledgment into a mere 24-hours, so in 1982, congress urged the president to extend the day into a week.

After five years of Women’s History Week, it still didn’t feel like enough time to get all our honoring in. The week was further extended to become Women’s History Month. It’s now a tradition for the sitting president to make a speech every year to commemorate the occasion and remind Americans of its importance.
