We’re in that stage of parenthood. The smelly teen boy age. I have two children who are all about deodorant and not smelling horrible, but one child doesn’t see the point in wearing deodorant, and doesn’t wear it.

His room is so smelly that I can barely handle going in there. I don’t know what it is, but I hear teen boys simply are just smelly. Perhaps it’s all those body changes and hormones. Whatever it is, it smells.

Editorial content

I have been trying to find simple ways to keep my teen boy’s room smelling nice. The thing is, what I consider “nice” would be a citrus or lavender scent, two scents that wouldn’t work for this kid.

So …

How do I Keep My Boys Room Smelling Fresh?

No Food

For starters, there’s a strict no food rule in this house. We weren’t always like this, but after years of seeing how much the boys accumulate in food and drink trash, we decided to say no food upstairs.

This can help reduce any bad smells that come in the boy’s room from the old food stench.

Use Plants

I heard that having live plants in his room may help keep boys room smelling fresh. Having live plants in the room may not cut down the stench but it can help reduce some of the poor air quality in his bedroom.

Peace lilies are an excellent live plant flower, that your boy may not want in his room, to help reduce acetone. Worth a shot?!

Use Essential Oils

You see, this is the number one method I plan to use to help keep my teen boys room smelling fresh. I’ve been knees deep in writing about various DIY essential oil diffusers, and it got me inspired to use this for the boy’s room.

What essential oils make a room smell good?

Below you’ll find a list of the best essential oils to use to keep your boys room smelling fresh. You’ll want to take into consideration scents that your teen boy isn’t sensitive to.

For example, our son wouldn’t like a citrus scent such as lemon or orange essential oil, so that’s scratched off. I think that the tea tree or peppermint options may work though.

It’s worth a shot!

I also found out you can use baking soda to help reduce body odor?

Apparently that’s a thing.
